Congressman Flake's Letter to President Obama Regarding Tariffs on Chinese Tires

Washington, D.C., Sep 15, 2009 - Republican Congressman Jeff Flake, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, today sent a letter to President Obama asking him to reconsider his decision to impose a 35% tariff on tire imports from China.

“Imposing tariffs on imports will, at best, prolong this recession,” said Flake. “At worst, it will exacerbate it.”

“The best thing the Administration can do to bolster domestic manufacturing is expand export markets. Provoking retaliatory action by China is simply not helpful.”
