Social Security

Congressman Flake supports President Bush’s initiative to create personal retirement savings accounts as part of Social Security. He believes that fundamental reforms must be made to Social Security if it is to be solvent for future generations.

Along with Congressman Sam Johnson of Texas, Congressman Flake has introduced the Individual Social Security Investment Program Act, which guarantees benefits for current retirees or those nearing retirement, while giving individuals over the age of 22 the option of diverting their share of the payroll tax (6.2 percent) into a personal savings account.
